Infinity Cube heralds a breakthrough for the IT and communication infrastructure deployed onboard vessels, adding virtualization and a high availability environment to the existing suite of Infinity functionality. Infinity Cube is the third member of the Infinity product family, supplementing Infinity Standard and Infinity Plus.

The Infinity Cube platform provides high availability and a performance virtualization environment. This environment is available to the end users for hosting virtual machines of any operating system (e.g. Windows, Windows server, Linux distribution etc.) and then of course for installing applications such as Planned Maintenance Systems, Quality Management Systems, email systems, file servers and any other specialized software used onboard. As is the case with all Infinity functions, the virtualization platform and the virtual machines hosted therein are managed via the unique centralized management and administration Infinity console, the Infinity Hub. Infinity Cube, the new flagship in the Infinity solution suite, allows for easy adoption of shore side IT paradigms into the demanding environment of ocean going vessels.

Infinity Cube offers a two node high performance active/active cluster with the ability to detect any failure in system components such as the CPU, memory, hard disks or even in a complete node, and then perform all required actions to bypass it without disrupting the continuous operation of the software installed. Infinity Cube is designed to minimize the presence of single points of failure and consequently minimizes system downtime and data loss. This ensures that both Infinity services but also all end user critical applications installed in the virtual environment are available at all times, even in the event of hardware failure

Virtualization and Consolidation of the IT infrastructure

Infinity Cube’s virtualization environment allows for the installation of any specialized critical applications used on vessels.

At the same time, the consolidation that results from the removal of different, sometimes outdated, computers used onboard to host these applications, improves cost efficiency as it reduces maintenance and administration costs. Security is also increased.

Complete centralized management and administration.

With the Infinity Cube solution, access to all important IT and communication functions, including: routing and networking, firewalling, crew internet access and filtering, virtual machines and applications, is available through one common management console, the Infinity Hub.

This completely centralized management allows IT administrators to perform their tasks more easily, without the need to communicate with those onboard or to involve the crew. The crew and especially the Master are no longer burdened with IT work which they are often untrained for, allowing them to focus on their tasks without having to struggle with the maintenance of software applications.

The remote access capabilities available to shore based staff for troubleshooting and maintenance also help reduce the need for technical attendances and thus reduces overall operating costs.

Infinity Cube offers an extremely user friendly web management interface for the remote administration of all virtual machines.

Easy deployment of new applications.

Infinity Cube allows for the remote setup of new virtual machines and for the installation of software applications within them. Shipping companies will have the ability to easily deploy and test new software applications without sending new hardware/computers onboard, or arranging technician attendances.

Remote onboard IT support

Part of the Infinity Cube service includes remote onboard IT support from Navarino for all systems installed within the virtual environment.

Hardware Scalability

Infinity Cube hardware provides scalable expandability. The scalable performance of the processors, the six DIMM slots for memory and its capacity for up to eight hard disks per node, ensures that the system can be configured to meet the most demanding requirements while being ready to cope with new requirements in future.

Infinity is a versatile system and development of new features and applications is continuous. Infinity Cube also offers:

  • Onboard Content Delivery, not limited to only movies and TV shows but also supporting high value services such as remote training and e-learning.
  • Desktop Virtualization, that enables the movement of applications from PCs onboard to the secure and completely managed environment of Infinity Cube. Desktop virtualization helps to reduce PC maintenance and administration costs and can replace them with low cost thin clients.

Remote setup of new virtual machines and installation of new applications is now available, without the need to send new hardware onboard and arrange technician attendances

On top of the standard Infinity functionality, Infinity Plus and Infinity Cube offer the following benefits to the ICT manager:

· Virtualization and Consolidation of the IT infrastructure
The virtualization environment allows for the installation of any specialized critical applications used on vessels.

· Easy deployment of new applications
Remote and onboard setup of new virtual machines and software applications within them.

· Complete centralized management and administration
Remote access to all important IT and communication functions, including routing and networking, firewalling, crew internet access and filtering, virtual machines and applications, through one common management console, the Infinity Hub.

· Remote onboard IT support
Remote onboard IT support from Navarino for all systems installed within the virtual environment.

· Upgradability
The rack mounted version of Infinity Plus can be upgraded to Infinity Cube

· Hardware Scalability
Infinity Cube and Plus (Rack mounted) hardware provides scalable expandability. The scalable performance of the processors (max. 2), the six DIMM slots for memory per CPU and its capacity for up to four hard disks per node, ensures that the system can be configured to meet the most demanding requirements while being ready to cope with new requirements in future.

Infinity Cube also offers:
